Assessment
• Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) including ecology chapter for Environmental Statements.
• Ecological Appraisals [in support of planning applications].
• Ecological input into BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) and EcoHomes assessments.
• Ecological background data search/ desk-top study.
• Pre-purchase/ pre-application ecological ‘risk’ assessment.
• Biodiversity assessments (including Biodiversity Action Plan Priority Species, Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act 2006 Section 41 and Section 42 Species of Principal Importance, and other species of conservation interest).
Survey/ Monitoring
• Botanical/ habitat survey and assessment (Phase 1 and Extended Phase 1 Habitat Survey, Hedgerow Survey, River Corridor Survey, National Vegetation Classification).
• Protected species survey and assessment (e.g. Great Crested Newt, Water Vole, Badger, Dormouse, Otter, bats, reptiles and birds).
• Long-term monitoring [of mitigation schemes].
Mitigation/ Compensation Measures
• Protected species mitigation and translocation, including application for Welsh Assembly Government and Natural England/Defra licences and design and implementation of Reasonable Avoidance Measures (RAMs) schemes. Both partners hold current Countryside Council for Wales and Natural England Great Crested Newt ‘survey and disturbance’ licences. Tom also holds a CCW ‘survey’ licence for Water Vole and a NE ‘survey’ licence for Barn Owl.
• Production of Reasonable Avoidance Measures (RAMs)/ Mitigation/ Compensation Method Statements or Strategy documents.
• Conservation Management Plans, monitoring services, mitigation plans and biodiversity assessments.
• Management, and implementation, of physical works (e.g. habitat creation/ enhancement) required for mitigation measures.
• Site supervision and clerk of works.
• Management of ecological staff.
