Max Ellson BSc MSc CEnv MIEEM

Max is an ecologist with over ten years consultancy experience; he is a full member of the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management as well as a Chartered Environmentalist. Although specialising in botany (he has an MSc (with Distinction) in Vegetation Survey and Assessment from the University of Reading), Max also has wide-ranging experience of ecological survey techniques, including Phase 1 and 2 habitat surveys, hedgerow surveys and protected species surveys (such as for Otters, Water Voles, Badgers, bats, Great Crested Newts and reptiles).

Max holds current Countryside Council for Wales (CCW) and Natural England (NE) Great Crested Newt ‘survey and disturbance’ licenses, as well as both CCW and NE licenses to ‘disturb’ Lesser Silver Water Beetle (whilst undertaking Great Crested Newt surveys).

Throughout his career he has conducted and managed botanical and habitat surveys across much of the UK across a broad spectrum of vegetation types; in recent years he has had considerable experience in surveying brown-field habitats, particularly within Wrexham borough. Max has particular expertise in undertaking Ecological Appraisals, Ecology sections of Environmental Impact Assessments and in providing ecological input into BREEAM assessments. Within Marches Ecology, Max leads the digital production of all maps, figures and plans.
